Photo Maurice Moonitz Celebrating a life well lived, Maurice Moonitz entered into rest on July 24, 2009. Beloved son of Samuel David and Eva Wittstein Moonitz, he was born on October 31, 1910, in Cincinnati, Ohio. Maurice was a dedicated scholar and earned his bachelor's, master's and doctorate degrees at the University of California, Berkeley, where he later taught. He served as a member of the Ground Observer Corps from 1942 to 1944 and was an active member in a number of professional and civic organizations, including the American Accounting Association, East Bay Chapter of the California Society of CPA's and Congregation Beth El. He will long be remembered by his family and friends for his warm inviting smile, gentle spirit and zest for life. He loved music and played the violin with many musical groups including symphony orchestras in Sacramento, Berkeley, and Hong Kong, and chamber music groups in California and New York.
