I was a good friend (girlfriend, actually) of Steve's from 1971 until about 1973. He lived in this beautiful home with a sailboat out back in San Rafael and we would spend many afternoon's hanging out on the dock or sailing out the Canal and into the Bay. When he went on the Hawaii Transpac races, he would send me fresh flower leis from the Islands. He introduced me to the UC Berkeley campus even though I knew I would eventually transfer there from College of Marin and that was a fun time touring campus and getting to know it before I actually went there. We spent many sunny weekends at Stinson Beach with our friends, Terry Hotzner and Tony Ferrandini, going to Samuel P. Taylor Park for picnics and getting Pizza at Pinky's and ice cream at Swensen's in Montecito. My parents loved Steve and he used to always be in the kitchen around dinner time taste-testing what my mom was cooking and he would say "Wow Marie...that tastes pretty good! Need any extra guests for dinner tonight?!" He and my dad played lots of summertime ping-pong games in our backyard and we spent a lot of Sunday afternoons swimming at my parent's house on Palm Avenue. May Steve rest in peace and his family find peace; I will always remember him as a very special person in my life. Carol Brandt
