Howie was a cherished mentor to me at Walden school in Berkeley in the 1960s. As a new kid in the fifth grade, I was not accepted by the girls in my class, (who had ousted another girl the year before) So I spent many hours in Howie's art room learning copper enamel and silver casting, and also learning pottery on the foot wheel next to the art room. Howie cared, made my pre-teen lemons into lemonade, and helped to build my self esteem with art. His mentorship and care is such a positive memory now in my old age. Howie was the "Bezalel" (under the shadow of the almighty) of my youth!!--- Psalm 91

I knew HOWARD only marginally but enuf to say that he was a wonderful person . His company was always a great pleasure to me . HOWARD was a very good painter , and , perhaps , overly modest abt his artistic achievements.

Dear Paul,
Although I didn't know Howard very well, I loved his art work and the stories I heard about him through Paula. It is always difficult to lose a parent. May your grief be lifted by remembering his large heart and personality.
With deepest sympathy,
Ginny & Ralph
