We hadn't heard the shocking news of Jerry's passing. We enjoyed being neighbors and watching our children grow up together at Park School God Bless,

Jerry was one of the world's really "good guys" - concerned about his
patients, his students, and his profession, and willing to advocate patiently
but persistently for doing "the right thing" rather than acquiescing
to bureaucratic resistances. He will be missed by his family and also by
all of us who were touched by him and feel a very appreciative part of his
professional family.

Jerry Motto was an important teacher/supervisor who drew me and many classmates toward psychiatry and/or a way of doctoring that I associate with Wm. Osler.

Only now did I realize that I hadn't seen MrJMotto for awhile at church services and/or psychiatric/psychological lectures. He was a true veteran, gentleman and medical practitioner of the psychiatric kind who was also a suicidologist and had concerned eyes when he looked into your soul. My brothers and I will miss him.

I used to see him at many psychiatric lectures and read in an article from the SFChronicle that he was a suicidologist before I knew there was such a profession.
