Felice Rolfe Maxam

July 16, 1934 - December 1, 2015

Felice Maxam (Lois Felice Perew Rolfe Maxam) 81, of Richmond CA, passed away December 1st, 2015 at Kaiser Hospital, Richmond, with her spouse, Blake, by her side, just 25 days short of their 40th anniversary. She is also survived by her first husband, two children, two grandchildren and a great-grandchild as well as a Brother and Sister-in-Law and a Son and Daughter-in-Law.

Born in June, 1934, to Felix and Lois Perew in Cleveland Ohio, she spent her youth in St. Petersburg, Florida. After moving to California with her first husband, Joseph Rolfe, she obtained her BA in Mathematics from San Jose State College leading her to a career in technical and other editing.
She held various positions both as employee and private consultant, though the job that gave her the most satisfaction was as Executive Assistant to the Director of the Jewish Federation of the Greater East Bay.
Her vocation as Editor was also an avocation and the fanzine NEIKAS, of which she was Publisher and Co-editor, won the 1967 Hugo Award. She was active in several organizations and was instrumental in the inception and development of the Society for Creative Anachronism.
As one of her friends put it, "She was a grand lady, bright and witty and feeling... She will be greatly missed."
A Remembrance will be held in the theatre space at Studio One, 365 – 45th Street, Oakland, CA on Saturday, April 9th, 2016 between 3:00 - 6:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made in her memory to the National Math and Science Initiative, the National Girls Collaborative Project, or the Jewish Federation of the Greater East Bay.
