Louie Ellsworth Obituary
Louie Ellsworth, faithful servant of God and beloved husband, father, and grandfather, graduated to Heaven on December 6, 2017 from his home in Modesto. Although his careers included a soldier, dairyman, and later as the knowledgeable “The Bible Man” at Beardsley’s Bible Bookstore in Modesto, family and friends knew Louie as a devoted follower of Christ, loving family man, spiritual leader, a model of hospitality, and a loyal friend.

Born to Elmer and Mae Ellsworth in 1929, Louie was raised in Long Beach, CA, served his country in the Korean War as a Sgt. in the U.S. Army, and married Betty Large in 1954. Their home was always open to family, friends, and new friends throughout their 53 years of marriage; Louie continued to offer hospitality to all after Betty’s home-going to heaven in 2007.

Louie was called to church leadership throughout his life, including Bethany Church of Alhambra, Lake Avenue Congregational Church (Pasadena), a founding member of The Serving Church Fellowship (Modesto), and a charter volunteer for over 16 years with the Advancing Vibrant Communities ministry outreach in Modesto.

Louie walked out Jesus’ command to “love your neighbor as yourself” throughout his life, with humility, graciousness, a gentle smile, and a huge heart.

He was deeply devoted to and passionate about his family: children Lori (and Michael) Douglass (Modesto), and Craig Ellsworth (Denver, CO); grandchildren Heather Douglass (Arlington, VA), Joshua Douglass (La Mirada), and Jennifer (and Rob) Villegas (Simi Valley), and great-grandchildren Brittany and Tyler Villegas; his brother Wayne (and Evelyn) Ellsworth (Lake Elsinore); family Kathleen and Kassie Douglass (Arcadia); and Brenda Lipomi (Modesto) and Carol “CJ” Jones (Alhambra).

Family and friends are invited to Louie’s celebration of life (graveside service) on Friday, December 29, 11 a.m., at Westminster Memorial Park, 14801 Beach Blvd., Westminster, CA.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages memorial donations to Advancing Vibrant Communities (AVC) of Modesto, a volunteer-based ministry through which Louie served people in need in the name of Christ: AVC, 3430 Tully Road, Box 20-239, Modesto, CA 95350, or www.vibrantcommunities.org/donate.

“They…met in homes for the Lord’s Supper, and shared their meals with great joy and generosity--all the while praising God and enjoying the goodwill of all the people” (Acts 2:46-47).
