Ruth Cecilia (Harper) Tetley Obituary
Mrs. Ruth Cecilia (Harper) Tetley, an 80-year resident of Whittier, California, was born on January 6, 1924 in Sacramento, California, to the late Frances Harthan Harper and Leon C Harper, and passed away at age 94 on June 1, 2018 at her home surround by loved ones. She graduated from Whittier High School in 1942 and the University of Redlands in 1946. She was in the child protective services industry for Los Angeles County as a social worker until retirement in 1995. Ruth was married to the late Richard A. Tetley for 58 years. She was preceded in death by her sister, Helen Harper Schoemann Atkins. Ruth is survived by her daughter, Rhea-Frances Tetley-Motley, Rhea’s husband Douglas Motley; grandchildren, David Motley and Sean Motley; great-grandchildren, Amelia Motley and Cassidy Motley; Ruth’s son, Richard A. Tetley Jr. and his daughters Dawn and Kacee; and nephews, Bill Schoemann and Tom Schoemann and his children; niece, Marilyn Schoemann McCabe and son John. Ruth's hobbies were helping others, volunteer work, playing bridge and canasta, doing crossword puzzles and delivering Meals on Wheels. She was a 80-year member of the First Methodist Church of Whittier. She was a member of Daughters of the Nile, Amaranth, and Kiwanis, and past presiding officer in the Eastern Star and White Shrine of Jerusalem, plus past president of the Volunteer Auxiliary at Whittier Presbyterian Hospital. Friends and family are welcome to attend the memorial service on Thursday, June 14 at 12:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, 13222 Bailey Street, Whittier. Following will be a graveside service at 1:30 p.m. at Rose Hills Memorial Park, Gate 1, Whittier, followed by a reception at the church. The funeral home is Southern California Mortuary in Whittier.
