Ruth Johana Katt Shinners

Ruth Johanna Katt Shinners

Our mom, Ruth Johanna Katt Shinners, died on June 23, 2014. Mom was born January 17, 1925 to Simeon and Johanna VanSwall Katt.

She graduated from Central High School and worked at Wisconsin Telephone Company as an operator. She met our dad at Jumes Restaurant and found out he was also an employee of Wisconsin Telephone Company. On April 24, 1947 they were married at Holy Name Church. They then began a life time together of caring for and raising their 12 children which included visits to the emergency room, time spent at school and church, as well as bottles and bottles of formula made by our dad. During that time mom also worked at Memorial Hospital in the nursery with other people's babies.

Mom enjoyed participating in a variety of activities including delivering Meals on Wheels with dad, she walked to the YMCA to play racquetball and swim. Summers were spent at the beach or Quarry with our Nack cousins and in her later years with her grandchildren. Mom loved to bake, walk, knit and read. She and her sister Char loved to shop at Prange's. She and Dad traveled to Arizona, Minnesota, Florida and Louisiana to visit kids and grandbabies. Wherever they traveled, Mom had a reputation for cleaning up around our houses by doing dishes, sweeping floors, and hanging out laundry. She always had a dust rag in her hand.

Mom's children include: Michael J. (Nancy) Shinners of Madison, Wl; MaryJo Krueck of Sheboygan, James P. (Jane Haberg ) Shinners of Grand Marais, MN; Barb Oppeneer of Sheboygan; John P. (Gail) Shinners of Covington, LA; Ann E. (Nils) Doli of Oslo, Norway; Jeanne M. (Joe) Kelly of Hobe Sound, FL; Kathleen M. (William) Hansen of Lakeville, MN; Patricia E. Shinners of Kane'ohe, HI; Thomas J. (Angela) Shinners of Sheboygan; Patrick D. (Mary Beth) Shinners of Marquette, Michigan, and Sarah J. (Nino) Baietti of Ft. Collins, CO. In addition, she leaves 28 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her brother Robert Katt of Sheboygan, her sister Judy Olm of Arizona and her sister-in-law Kate Abendroth of Appleton. She was preceded in death by our dad, James Shinners, as well as her grandson, John Shinners of Covington, LA; brother Paul Katt; her sisters, Nell Killnas, and Char Nack and her sister-in-law Eileen Shinners.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Name Church, 818 Huron Avenue, Sheboygan.
