Hamilton R. Strowig

Kiel - Hamilton R. Strowig, age 98, formerly of Kiel, passed away Sunday evening, May 13, 2018 at Field of Dreams Assisted Living, Kiel.

He was born July 16, 1919 in the Town of Mosel, son of the late Herman and Wilhelmina (Gerbing) Strowig. Hamilton attended Taylor Grade School in Cleveland. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Mark's Reformed Church, Cleveland.

Hamilton served in the U.S. Army in World War II as a Military Police Officer in Alaska from 1943 until 1945. On April 12, 1941 he married Ruth A. Meyer at the Zion Lutheran Parsonage. They celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary before she preceded him in death on October 24, 2011. They farmed in the Town of Mosel until moving to Kiel in 1963. Hamilton and Ruth enjoyed traveling, especially to Kiel, Germany where they visited several times with friends. He worked at HG Weber Co. in shipping and receiving until retiring on May 6, 1985. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, the Cleveland VFW Post and Kiel VFW Post where he served as President. Hamilton was a caretaker and on the board of Trustees form Schleswig Cemetery Association. He enjoyed woodworking, golf, and weaving rugs.

Hamilton is survived by his brother-in-law, Willard Meyer and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Ruth; his parents; Herman (Wilhelmina) Strowig; his brothers and sisters: Melinda (Alois) Lindsmeier, Walter (Myrtle) Strowig, Clarence (Katherine) Strowig, Norma (Darwin) Werner, and Elmer (Frances) Strowig; his father-in-law and mother-in-law: Theodore (Anitha) Meyer; and brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Hamilton will be held at 1:00 pm on Thursday, May 17, 2018 at Trinity Lutheran Church (387 Cemetery Rd., Kiel) with Rev. David Laabs officiating. Burial will take place in Schleswig Cemetery. Military Honors will be accorded at the cemetery by Kiel VFW Post #6707.

Visitation will take place at church from 11:00 am until the time of service at 1:00 pm.

A Memorial will be established in Hamilton's name.
