SHELBY - Larry Stephen Phillips, 66, of 1351 N. Lafayette St., departed this life on Wednesday, December 5, 2018 at Wendover Hospice House in Shelby. He was born on January 6, 1952 to Hattie H. Phillips and the late J.P. Phillips.

Larry was a graduate of Crest High School and was also a U.S. Air Force veteran. He was employed with Travis Knit in Cherryville until their closing. Larry attended Hopper's Chapel Baptist Church. He enjoyed spending time with his family, cooking and making people laugh.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lorene Phillips.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his mother, Hattie H. Phillips of Boiling Springs, NC; his children, Shumicka Phillips, Josh Phillips and Stella Surratt all of Shelby, NC and Stephanie Woods of Durham, NC; two brothers, Willie Phillips of Charlotte, NC and Michael Phillips (Joy) of MD; a sister, Sheila Wilson (Tench) of Shelby; eight

grandchildren; a host of great-grandchildren; two special friends, Cedric Williams and Calvin Wright both of Shelby; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 8, 2018 at 2:00 PM at Hopper's Chapel Baptist Church with Rev. Robert E. Coleman officiating.

Burial will take place at Sunset Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 2 p.m. on Saturday and other times at the home.
