Doris Evans Obituary

Doris Estelle Evans

Doris Estelle Evans was born on July 23, 1922 in Homer, Louisiana and died on February 6, 2013 in Bossier City, Louisiana. She passed away peacefully of natural causes with many loved ones at her side. She was the oldest of four daughters born to Almer D. and Lucille Chandler Evans. Her family moved to Bossier City when she was three years old; Doris was baptized at Barksdale Baptist Church and graduated from Bossier High School. She worked most of her career for SWEPCO, retiring in 1987 with 41 years of service.

Doris loved to garden and work outside; she was a published poet, a dedicated employee and most of all a generous and loving daughter, sister, aunt, great-aunt, and great-great-aunt. She was extremely proud of her family's accomplishments and took much joy in exchanging letters and visiting with all members of her family.

In addition to her father and mother Doris was preceded in death by brothers-in-law James Law and Earl Bennett and nephews Jimmy Law and David Bennett.

Doris is survived by sisters, Dorothy Evans Law, Agnes Evans Bennett, and Hope Evans Mitchell and husband Ralph; nephews and nieces Ron Law, Elaine Bennett Gartrell and husband Steve, Rebecca Mitchell Mayer and husband Carl, and Ralph Mitchell II and wife Lisa. She is also survived by great-nephews and nieces Bryan Mitchell, Angie Mayer Dredge and husband Harlan, Margaret Mayer Digilormo and husband Brandon, Barron Bennett, Dylan Mitchell, Samantha Mitchell and Kate Gartrell and great-great nephews and niece Cole, Lane, and Cannon Dredge and Braeden and Ella Hope Digilormo.

In one last unselfish act Doris left a directive that her remains be donated to science for the benefit of all.
