TSgt Derek Emanuel
Langford
TSgt Derek Emanual Langford, 31 of North Las Vegas, NV left this life on earth August 16, 2013 to fly with the angels. Derek was a Tech Sargent of the United States Air Force Stationed at Creech AFB, Nv. He came into this world in Shreveport, La on May 4, 1982, a few months earlier than expected. Derek was a member of the AF-ROTC while attending high school. Excelling in school, he graduated early from Ruston High School in Ruston, La and joined the United States Air Force attending Basic training at Lackand AFB. After basic training and tech school, TSgt Langford proceeded to Tyndall AFB as a ground telementry apprentice. He cross trained in 2004 and proceeded to Creech AFB,NV as a Communications Maintainer. During this time, Derek had been deployed to Afghanistan twice and to Iraq. He also spent a year at South Korea at Kunsan AFB . Later, he was once again assigned to Creech AFB when he returned from South Korea as a Cyber Transport Technician, part of the 799th Air Base Group. He dedicated eight years of service at the RPA mission at Creech AFB, enabling countless missions and aiding the warfighter through steadfast and loyal communication support. He had been a proud member of the Air Force for the past 13 years, continuing his education while serving in the military.
Derek was also a very humorous, kind and gentle soul. He loved to make you happy if you were sad and would help anyone that needed it. He loved motorcycles and had been an avid and natural sport bike rider. In high school, he was a very good skateboarder and loved being with his friends in Ruston skateboarding around town. Always a problem solver, he would always be repairing some item for someone, being electronic or mechanical. Derek was a true "geek and gear head". There was not much that he could not fix. He would always find a way to make something work or work better. He had also become involved with geo caching. Derek was seldom seen, with the exception of his military issue footwear, without a pair of "Chuck's" on. Converse All Stars had been his shoe of choice for over 13 years. He loved movies and also loved being on the hunt for that retro/antique bargain. But above all of that, his loved his daughter Jordan. Her ray of sunshine came into his life 5 years ago and brought him so much joy. Jordan was the light of his life and he was always so proud of her. She was his heart and he loved her so much.
Derek had so much of Louisiana's rich history in his genes, being a decedent of the Lafitte's, DeSoto's and St. Denis. Preceding in death was his grandfather J.P. Langford

The Final Salute
“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.
This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to TSG. Derek Emanual Langford our Brother in Arms. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Derek. And to Derek it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the service he rendered to his country during Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom while serving in the U.S. Air Force. No greater love and patriotism is shown than a man lay down his life in service to his country. Derek, you are a loyal Air Force Warrior and a true Patriot. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at ease. Rest in Peace.
On behalf of the 1,261 military veteran Legionnaires of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion and the 233 veterans of VFW Post 2238 in Shreveport, Louisiana, we extend our sympathies and our condolences to Claude's family and loved ones.
