Thomas A. Baker, Jr.

Shreveport, LA - Mr. Thomas A. Baker, Jr., 75, passed away on Saturday, February 9, 2013. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Monday, February 11, 2013, and Tuesday, February 12th from 9:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at Osborn Funeral Home. A vigil service will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. A funeral Mass will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 12th at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Karl Daigle celebrating. Interment will follow at Forest Park West Cemetery.

Mr. Baker was born August 9, 1937 in Natchitoches, LA to Col. Thomas A. Baker and Cora Lee Hill Baker. He graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1955. Upon graduation, he served the country he loved by serving in the U. S. Navy. He was a gifted athlete who lettered in baseball leading his team to many championships. He also played baseball for the American Legion. He graduated from Northwestern State University in 1964.

Mr. Baker had an outgoing personality which was an asset to him. He worked at Holmes Pontiac for many years before becoming an insurance agent for Farm Bureau Insurance Company for 14 years. He retired from the City of Shreveport in 2002. Most of all he loved fishing and the game of golf where he excelled and won many tournaments. After his retirement, he enjoyed teaching the junior program at Querbes Golf Course.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Ellen; daughters, Jennifer Morgan and husband, Jimmy, and Ellen Dunn and husband, Greg of Alexandria, LA; son, Thomas Ashley Baker III and wife, Angela; seven grandchildren, Steven Collier, Thomas Baker IV, Noelle Dunn, Margaret Dunn, David Morgan, Lauren Scheu and Cole Baker; sisters, Lee B. McNeely and husband, Sandy, Marietta B. Lee and husband, Lester of Natchitoches, LA, and Anne B. Breda and husband, Harry of Humble, TX.

Pallbearers will be Thomas Ashley Baker III, Jimmy Morgan, Greg Dunn, David Deville, Dennis Deville, John Slattery and Tim Reynolds.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. Gary Hensley and the staff at the VA Medical Center and St. Joseph Hospice for the loving care. Donations may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital or St. Joseph Catholic Church.
