Anthony Carmody Obituary

Anthony Phelan Carmody

Shreveport, LA - Anthony Phelan Carmody, 51, passed away on August 8, 2018 after a recent tragic accident. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, August 10, 2018, at Osborn Funeral Home followed by a vigil service and Rosary. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 11, 2018, at The Cathedral of St. John Berchmans Catholic Church with Fr. Peter Mangum celebrating. Interment will follow at Forest Park Cemetery.

Anthony was born July 15, 1967 in Shreveport, Louisiana. He graduated from St. Joseph Catholic School, Loyola College Prep and Louisiana State University.

Preceding him in death were grandparents, Anthony McDade Phelan and Katherine Huey Phelan; grandparents, Arthur R. Carmody and Caroline Gaughan Carmody; father, Thomas Gaughan Carmody; brother, Christopher Phelan Carmody, and beloved son, Frederick Miller Carmody, and father-in-law, Dr. George Beach.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Katherine Miller Carmody, and their beloved children Anthony Phelan Carmody Jr., Georgia Louise Carmody and Lily Grace Carmody; mother, Katherine Phelan Carmody; siblings, Katherine C. Frangos, Caroline C. Chumley, Thomas G. Carmody Jr., F. Michael Carmody, Josephine C. Brigham, Anne C. Pugh, Elizabeth C. Van Genderen, John Barry Carmody, Margaret C. Hagood, Bridget C. Day, Marie Carmody, and their spouses; mother-in-law, Nanette Schneider Beach, and Katherine's siblings, Derry B. Adams, George B. Beach, Elizabeth A. Miller, John F. Beach, Gaynanette Beach, and Anne Miller, and their spouses; father-in-law, David M. Miller; numerous nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins, including special aunts and uncles, Arthur R. Carmody Jr. and Josephine G. Carmody, and Pat and Kathryn Phelan.

Pallbearers will be Michael Ellis, Kurt Cummings, Lee Berry, John Batson, Beau Box, Al Betz, Jimmy Casten, Stewart Craig, Kip DelaVega, Robert Embree, Stuart Gayle, Wayne Girouard, Frank Goldsberry, Frank Harris, Charles Hawes, Rogers Herndon, Rob Lindsey, Clay Lowery, Colin Mangum, Clay Nelson, Paul Robertson, Tim Schneider, Marc Schneidau, Les Tompkins, David Viguerie, Mike Wolcott and Mack Brown Jr.

Anthony embraced all life offered as a husband, father, son, brother, and friend, giving fully of himself. He was as quick with kind words and thoughtful gestures as he was with jokes to share the mirth of life or to ease sorrows of those around him. Generosity and hospitality were his default, virtuous traits he shared with his father. His greatest joy was celebrating his life with Katherine, Anthony, Georgia, Lily Grace and Frederick, enjoying afternoons on Cross Lake, cheering on the LSU Tigers, competing cheerfully with local tennis clubs, and lingering happily over family meals.

He was a successful businessman, working for the past three decades in pharmaceutical sales management. He nurtured lasting friendships in his work, and the outpouring of support from his colleagues, including former associates around the country, is a testament to the depths of joy his friends felt in his presence. He was a proud member of DKE fraternity, and counted his brothers as family who gave him fodder for a lifetime of yarns and laughter. He cherished his annual retreat to Manresa in Convent, Louisiana, and the men who shared that journey with him.

The Carmody and Beach family wishes to express our sincere gratitude to the doctors and nurses at Willis Knighton Medical Center - Pierremont for their efforts to save Anthony.

The family requests that memorials be made in memory of Anthony to St. Joseph Catholic School, 1210 Anniston Avenue, Shreveport, LA 71105, or to Loyola College Prep, 921 Jordan Street, Shreveport, LA 71104.

My memories of Anthony were from years ago as next door neighbor on Atlantic St and then as his junior high football coach. He was one of my favorites and I can still see that smiling face behind his face mask. He loved the game and he was full of life. Several of the pall bearers were also players on those St. Joseph teams. I was happy to see their names carrying their fallen team mate to his final resting place. The Carmody's are a wonderful family. I hate they have to experience this tragedy. Mike Fulco

I am so sad to learn of this tragic news. It's very difficult to process, I had known Anthony for almost 20 years now. We had met at PDI on the Novartis contract in sales. Anthony was such a great person, full of fun, laughter and positive energy. Anthony was a very talented sales person because of his excellent interpersonal skills. He knew how to motivate people and get them to listen. Anthony's great leadership skills lead him quickly up the ranks into management. His entire team celebrated his success because it was so well deserved. An exciting memory I still remember, way back when, was when our whole sales team was so excited for Anthony and his wife, as they were expecting their first set of twins. So long ago now.., and then they were blessed, yet again, with another set of twins!! Anthony was always all about his family, so passionate; proud to be a part of such a large and closely knit family. My heart is just broken for you all. Sending my prayers and warmest sympathy. I imagine Anthony and Freddie, along with other family members long passed, are having a glorious reunion. My prayer is that Anthony's family remains strong and tight together, even in the midst of this additional tragic loss. Sometimes things just don't make sense and are beyond painful, but I know that Anthony would want all of the rest of his family to keep believing, celebrating life and all it's blessings. May God bless you all. My warmest sympathy and hugs. Sincerely, Michelle Peters Houston, Texas

I worked with Anthony at Seprecor and Sunovion Pharmaceuticals. He always had a smile on his face and a kind word to say. He loved his family very much and spoke often of them. I will miss our mini reunions at Tiger stadium, it was always fun to catch up.

I went to LSU with Anthony. Met him early my freshman year. Very nice guy. Always got along well. He tragically lost his 8 year old son to a rare infection. The one positive from this, the only one, he is back with his boy now. God speed AC
