Ft. Worth, TX - Betty Lou Spigener Martin, 89, of Fort Worth, Texas, formerly of Shreveport, Louisiana, passed away on December 19, 2017, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's Disease.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held in her honor Saturday, June 9, 2018, 2:00-5:00, at the Hilton Garden Inn of Bossier City, followed by a funeral service Sunday, June 10, at 1:00 at the New Hope Baptist Church in Athens, LA.

Betty was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Harry Tracy Martin and her six siblings; Margie Lois Spigener James; Alvin Woodrow Spigener; Cecil Clyde Spigener; Joseph Benjamin Spigener, Jr.; Raymond Calvin Spigener; and Tommy Ray Spigener.

Betty was born in Athens, La. on August 24, 1928. She graduated from Northwestern State University in 1948, where she met her husband for 60 years and the love of her life, Harry Martin. They moved to the Shreveport area where Betty worked in education, first as a teacher and then as a guidance counselor for 34 years. She was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church of Blanchard and later the First Baptist Church of Greenwood.

Betty cherished her time with family and lived life to the fullest. She loved music and dancing and enjoyed her last years singing, playing the piano and ballroom dancing.

Betty is survived by her daughters, Kandis Martin Beaber of Austin, Texas, and Kaye Alexander of Fort Worth, Texas, her grandson, Cody Alexander of Fort Worth, a sister-in-law, Faye Chandler Spigener of Shreveport, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Dyke and Sally Martin of Baton Rouge. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
