Shreveport, LA - Billy Leary Pettigrew passed away on January 10, 2021 at the age of 85 years old. Billy had recently been ill and was in a Bossier City hospital when he passed. A graveside service will be held in his honor on Saturday, January 16 at 12:00 PM at Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery, located at 425 Liberty Baptist Church Road Coushatta, LA 71019. Services under the direction of Rockett-Nettles Funeral Home, Coushatta, LA.

Billy L. Pettigrew was born on August 26, 1935 in East Point, Louisiana. He was raised in Red River Parish by his parents, Coy E. Pettigrew and Juanita Martin Pettigrew with his twin brother, Bobby L. Pettigrew Sr.

Billy married his high school sweetheart, Mary Cotton Pettigrew and they shared 66 years together as husband and wife. He founded Three States Sales and Service in 1970 and continued in the oilfield working alongside his son at Pettigrew Specialty Company, Inc. for another 20 years. He loved the oilfield and moreover he loved to talk about it. His love for machinery extended to motorcycles which he owned and enjoyed over the years. Billy was a storyteller, a collector, a gardener, and a man who loved to tinker with anything. He was known to many as Pappy and was a loving grandfather and friend.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Martin Elliot Pettigrew (1971); and twin brother, Bobby L. Pettigrew, Sr.

Billy is survived by his wife, Mary Pettigrew; his son, John C. Pettigrew, and wife Kim; granddaughter, Leigh Pettigrew-Kirkpatrick and husband T.A.; great-grandchildren, Tucker Williams and Presley Kirkpatrick.

The family would like to express appreciation to all of you who have been like family to Billy and Mary in this difficult time. A special thanks goes out to Rockett-Nettles Funeral Home in Coushatta for their help and kindness.

My husband worked with Billy for number of years at National Supply in Shreveport. We shared a very special friendship with Mary and Billy for a number of years. I want Mary to remember those younger carefree days and the good times we had together. I lost my husband Ray 10 years ago this month, and I want Mary and John to cherish their good memories of Billy and know that in time things will get better. God bless them and their family during these difficult days.
