Charles S. Walker

Shreveport, LA - Funeral services for Charles (Charlie) S. (Simp) Walker, 87, will be held on Saturday, November 10, 2018 at 2:30 p.m. at Christ United Methodist Church in Shreveport where Charlie was a member for 45 years. Burial will follow at Centuries Memorial Park. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m.

Charlie was born on October 31, 1931 in Ripley, MS in the Shady Grove community. He graduated from Memphis State University and went to work for Great Western Financial Services where he worked for 38 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of the 114th Engineering Battalion of the Army National Guard. Charlie was very active in Christ United Methodist Church and the Builder's Sunday School class. He was especially proud to be a member of the Men's Prayer Breakfast Group at the church. He was a member of the former Summer Grove Lions Club where he was awarded the Melvin Jones Fellow Award and received the Lion of the Year Award twice and supported the Lions Children Camp. Before his health failed, he spent many hours in his garden and enjoyed bragging and sharing the fruits of his labor.

Charlie was a proud husband, father and grandfather. He loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was full of wit, had a unique sense of humor and never met a stranger.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four siblings; grandson, Matthew Frazier; great-grandson, Matthew Brockus and great-granddaughter, Sara Beth Smith.

Charlie is survived by his childhood sweetheart and wife of 64 years, Betty Walker; children, Billy Walker (Tracey), Becky Ulcak (Alan), Sarah Walker, and Eddie Walker (Kim); nine grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.

His family and friends will miss him dearly and look forward to their homecoming in Heaven.

Pallbearers will be Billy Walker, Eddie Walker, Brian Walker, Jason Walker, Calen Walker and Alan Ulcak. Honorary pallbearers will be the Men's Prayer Breakfast Group and the Builder's Sunday School class.

The family requests memorials be sent to the Christ United Methodist Church - Becky Houston Memorial Scholarship Fund.

The family would like to give a special thanks to WK North 2nd floor and SICU nursing staff, especially Dr. Garavaglia and Dr. Byrd.
