Fern Turner Obituary
Fern Brantley Turner

BOSSIER CITY, LA - Fern Brantley Turner passed away on November 10, 2012. Visitation will be held at Hill Crest Memorial Chapel from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 14, 2012. Memorial service will follow, conducted by Rev. Dale Walker.

Fern was born August 30, 1933 to William E. Brantley and Mildred Kelly Brantley at Lillie, LA. After high school, she moved to Bossier City, where she met and married her life partner, John Douglas Turner, who was currently beginning a career with the United States Air Force at Barksdale AFB in Bossier City. After many moves to various assignments in the states and overseas, Fern and John settled permanently in Bossier City.

Fern was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Bob, Olin, Charles and sister, Betty.

She is survived by her loving husband, John; son, Randy Turner and his wife Melanie of Monroe, LA; daughter, Karen Barnett and her husband Dave of Watkinsville, GA; grandchildren, Lindsey Turner Swander and husband Bill, Austin, Carlie, and Maggie Turner, Rachel Barnett Bishop and husband Will, Hayley and Jake Barnett; great grandson, William Swander and one sister, Louise Nicholson in Michigan.

Fern's loving devotion to her family and many friends was expressed by her graciousness and outgoing personality. Her special love for all children was also expressed through her work at child care centers and pre-school teaching throughout much of her adult life. Her physical fitness was of major importance to her. She enjoyed volunteer work, traveling to other countries, socializing with friends, trips to beaches with family, good food and her fabulous cooking and eating with her family and friends. Her love and devotion to God was expressed throughout her life. If heaven could be made more glorious - it surely happened upon arrival of this most wonderful spirit.

Her deeds of generosity, kindness, sympathy for others, her strength of character, and her trust in the Lord will remain with all who knew her.

Honoring Fern as pallbearers will be her son-in-law, Dave Barnett, grandsons, Jake Barnett and Austin Turner; also, Mario Garza, Leland McNabb and Robert Zirkle.

The Turner family expresses deep gratitude and special thanks to caregivers and those many friends who expressed their love, prayers and support throughout her battle with cancer.
