Gretchian Ann Autrey "Honey" Earls

1946 - 2018 Obituary Condolences
Gretchian Ann Autrey "Honey" Earls Obituary
Gretchian "Honey" Ann Autrey Earls

- - Ms. Gretchian Ann Autrey Earls better known as "Honey" was born February 17, 1946 to the late Mr. Alex H. Autrey, Sr. and Ms. Lessie Black. She departed this life on Friday, November 30, 2018. She confessed Christ at an early age at Union Star Baptist Church and baptized by Rev. G. W. Odom.

She was married to the late Aaron Earls, Sr. and to that union there were three children.

Gretchian was a 1964 high school graduate of Booker T. Washington High School where she excelled academically and in performing arts. After graduating from high school, Gretchian attended Louisiana Vocations Technical school where she graduated and obtained a license as a practical nurse (LPN). Gretchian worked tirelessly as an LPN at Louisiana State University (LSU).

Gretchian was a life-long career woman and enjoyed providing care and love to her many patients she encountered.

Gretchian often had dreams of furthering her education and decided to return to school to obtain her Associate's Degree in Nursing. Gretchian graduated in 1986 from Northwestern State University at the age of 40. Gretchian continued to work and serve the public. Gretchian worked for many years in the Operating Room at LSU, serving the later part of her nursing career as the evening Operating Room supervisor. After 20 years of nursing, Gretchian decided to retire. But, as anyone who knows "Honey", she did not stay retired for long. Gretchian began a second, rewarding career serving America's Veterans at Overton Brooks Veterans Administration Medical Center as a primary care registered nurse. After several years of working at Overton Brooks, Gretchian decided it was time to retire from work and spend more time with her family.

Gretchian was a God-fearing, loving woman who loved her Pastor and her church. As an active member of Paradise Baptist Church family, Gretchian served and was very passionate about reading, teaching and mission ministry. Gretchian was a Sunday school teacher, a member of the Senior Mission ministry and a member of the Paradise Baptist Church Book Club.

Gretchian was preceded in death by her parents, Alex H. Autrey, Sr. and Lessie Black; two sisters - Jettie Lee Autrey and Donzetta Baker; five brothers - Alex H. Autrey, Jr., Richard Autrey, William "Billie" Ivory Autrey, Leslie "Joe" Autrey and Vernon Autrey; and one niece - Only A. Ross.

Gretchian leaves to cherish her memory: Stepson Aaron Earls, Jr. (Illinois), son Vincent Courtney Earls, Sr., and daughter Kimberly Renee Banks, and son-in-law Timothy Banks; four grandchildren - Jacolbe T. Earls (Texas), Vincent C. Earls, Jr., Timia R. Banks, and Tia A. Banks; two great grandchildren Kaleb C. Earls and Zayn A. Earls-Moraza; one brother, Flenard Autrey, Sr.; seven sisters - Anna J. Ross, Lessie B. Black, Pinkie Nichols, Peggy Autrey, Coral J. Milton, Mattie M. Wilson, and Vada Harris (all of Shreveport); and a host of nieces, nephews, and many other relatives and friends.

The family would like to thank the ICU staff at Christus Highland for their wonderful support and care of Ms. Earls during her illness. Special acknowledgement to Dr. Craig Miller and Dr. David Green for providing such compassionate and generous care to Ms. Earls. We, the family will ever be thankful for your kind efforts and generosity.
