Shreveport, LA - James Robinson "Rob" Tinsley was born on February 15, 1944, in Shreveport, Louisiana, and passed away on Tuesday, January 8, 2019, in the city of his birth at the age of 74. He was the only child of James Madison and Norma Robinson Tinsley.

Mr. Tinsley was a 1962 graduate of C.E. Byrd High School, going on to earn a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science with a double major in History at Centenary College. He graduated from Texas A&M University at Commerce, Texas, with a Master of Arts degree in History and a Master of Arts degree in Geography. He also studied at the University of Alabama where he received a Master of Library Science degree. He attended the University of St. Anne, Point Eglise, Nova Scotia and received a Diploma in French. Mr. Tinsley was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity at Centenary College. He was also a member of Blue Key Honor Society, Phi Alpha Theta Honor Society in History, Gamma Theta Epsilon Honor Society in Geography, Pi Tau Chi National Honor Society, and Pi Gamma Delta Honor Society in Social Science.

His career began as an Instructor of History at William Carey College in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. He then became an Assistant Professor of History at Morehead State University, Morehead, Kentucky, and then Assistant Librarian at the Lafourche Parish Libraries, Thibodaux, Louisiana. He then taught in the St. Mary Parish Schools at Berwick Junior and Senior High, Berwick, Louisiana, and The Academy of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Morgan City, Louisiana. After moving back to Shreveport, he taught at St. Theresa's Catholic School, Trinity Heights Academy, Southfield School and Grawood Christian School. His later years of teaching were in Caddo Parish Schools.

He was a long-time member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church and later the Cathedral of St. John Berchman Catholic Church, where he was a Eucharistic Minister and a member of the Knights of Saint John of Jerusalem.

Rob was preceded in death by his parents and survivors left to cherish his memory are his friends and colleagues.

A visitation will be held from 1:00 until 2:00 pm in the Chapel of Osborn Funeral Home on Monday, January 14, 2019, followed by a Celebration of his Life, officiated by Fr. Duane Trombetta. Interment will follow at The Greenwood Cemetery, Shreveport, where he will be buried in the family plot.

Honoring Mr. Tinsley as pallbearers will be Jamie Carter, Jerry Davis, Sr., Jerry Davis, Jr., Eddie Gaddy, Doug Marrs, and Wayne Orr. Honorary pallbearer will be Dr. Jim Owen.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the nurses, aides, and staff of Heritage Manor Stratmore for the loving care they gave Rob during his last two months.
