My wife and I will miss Joanne. As Director of Student Life at Clayton State College (now Clayton State University) in Morrow, Georgia, I had the privilege of booking Joanne for several duo-piano concerts (with Jeannine Morrison, Clayton's piano professor). Her talent was obvious, as was her warm personality. One year I needle pointed a set of musical note coasters for her and Fred. She sent me back a thank you card and two Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood Trolley T-shirts for my wife and I. We were blessed to know her for almost 45 years.

Rev Frank Lewis from Greensburg PA & Fred could have passed for brothers! They were both theologians & soft spoken! They resembled and even talked alike. They will get to meet each other someday!

We are saddened by the earthly loss of Mrs Rogers but can take solace in the fact that as she is walking out of our lives towards heaven, when we can barely see her, that there is a handsome man in sneakers and a sweater up in heaven that is having a beautiful day in his neighborhood as his dear wife and life partner is coming into view and are once again reunited.
Your work here on earth is finished Mrs Rogers, go on to your reward.

You loved listening to KDKA radio & you really enjoyed the song which was played at Christmas time which was sung by a French girls' choir! It was sung entirely in French but was so Heavenly! You reminded us that in Heaven everyone will speak the same language & there will be no language barriers! You & Fred were so proud of your family in Heaven & those of us who will be there one day!

We will always remember you for your support for Fred when he first started his show. Not everyone knows that he had a degree in theology also! There is a minister from Greensburg, Frank Lewis, who resembles Fred & sounds like him. It's amazing!!!

I was just thinking about her a couple days ago. She and Fred were friends I just did not happen to meet. My life and the lives of my son and granddaughter are immeasurably better because they existed in the world. I miss knowing Joanne was still in the world. :-(

Fred and Joanne Rogers were married for over 50 years
Joanne Rogers met Fred Rogers when the pair were students at Rollins College in Florida. She earned a bachelor of music degree in piano performance and a masters degree in music from Florida State University. She performed professionally as a concert pianist with her friend Jeannine Morrison, calling themselves the Rogers-Morrison piano duo. They recorded two studio albums. She also spent time as a music teacher. She was married to Fred Rogers from 1952 until his passing in 2003.

Libby Dyer worked at West Penn Power & she passed photos of Fred to the children who came in with their parents!
She explained to them that his intent was to teach them life lessons as well as to entertain them! She was so proud of him and he was her cousin!

I am now a 60 years young I grew up with Mr. Rogers and was always SO excited when I heard the train coming! I was happy to here Tom Hanks speak so fondly of the time he spent with Mrs. Rogers. I now watch Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood with (and without) my 2 year old grandson! Mr. and Mrs. Rogers are truly one of our national treasures and always will be. Their gifts to humanity will live on for generations to come. I meet them both in heaven.
