Shreveport, LA - John Thomas Jayne, 86, passed away peacefully June 9, 2018 after a lengthy illness. He was born in Tarrytown, New York and raised in Chillicothe, Ohio, the oldest of eight children. After graduating from Chillicothe High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served a tour of duty as a medic in Japan during the Korean War. Upon his return, he attended Ohio University and received a degree in Business Administration. He worked briefly for RCA before moving his family to Columbus, Ohio and working for Western Electric as a computer specialist.

In 1968 he was transferred to Shreveport to help manage the local plant of Western Electric, later to become AT&T. He received an MBA from Centenary College. After retirement he was an instructor in the Business Dept. of LSU-S. He also served as president of the local chapter of the Louisiana Association for the Blind.

John discovered the Shreveport Yacht Club in the early 1970's and spent many hours sailing in races on Cross Lake. He enjoyed playing guitar and mandolin with a group of local musicians who often gathered to "pick and sing." He loved country music, good food, family get-togethers and dances. Some of his happiest moments were spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He regularly visited the Elizabetta Renzi Center to play his guitar for the children there. He also played for Sunday School classes at Grace United Methodist Church. He loved to watch his grandchildren and great-grandchildren in their various activities at Loyola College Prep, St. Mark's Cathedral School and Southfield School.

John was preceded in death by his parents Hudson and Marie Jayne, his first wife Joan McHugh Jayne, his son-in-law Michael Pierce, and his brother Red. He is survived by his wife, Donna Benton Jayne, and her daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren; daughter Karen Dilll and husband Joe; daughter Laura Pierce; granddaughter Jennifer Dill Walls and husband Chris and their children Jack, Caroline and Claire; grandson Kyle Dill and wife Marti and their children Thomas, Andrew, George, Mary Frances and John Fisher. He is also survived by two brothers, George Jayne of Chillicothe, Ohio, and Patrick Jayne of Charlotte, NC and four sisters, Roberta Cunningham of Daytona Beach, FL, Lorena Risch of Sarasota, FL, Patsy Day of Akron, OH and Nancy Matushoneck along with a host of nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held Thursday, June 14 at 10:00 AM with a memorial service following at 11:00 AM at Grace Community United Methodist Church. Jessica Lowe will officiate. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to Grace Community Methodist Church Children's Department or to a .
