Madison Pool Box

Shreveport, LA - A memorial service for Madison Pool Box will be held at Woodridge Baptist Church, where he was a member, on Wednesday, May 16 at 11 a.m. Officiating will be Dr. Chuck McInturff and Dr. Mike Hawkins. Visitation will be at 10 a.m. prior to the service.

Mr. Box passed away at his home May 12, surrounded by his wife and daughters, following a lengthy battle with Parkinson's. He was one day short of 82, born May 13, 1936, in Shreveport, LA. His parents were W. L. and Merle Pool Box. He grew up in Shreveport, attending Queensborough Elementary, Lakeshore Junior High, and graduating in 1954 from Fair Park High School. In 1955, he married Barbara Polette, and worked for his father at Box's Esso. City Marshal John Edgar asked him to join the Shreveport City Marshal's Office in 1966. There, he made his career as deputy, chief deputy, and in 1984 he was elected Shreveport City Marshal. After serving two terms as Marshal, he retired from office in 1996.

Madison had a love of music and singing, which began in church choir as a boy. Through the years he sang in choir, directed choir, and filled in as interim music minister at many churches in the area. He served at Barksdale Baptist as minister of music and worked with the youth for several years.

Baseball was another passion of Madison's. He played as a young boy, in high school, and at the Baptist Ball Park for Queensborough Baptist Church. Having two daughters and no sons, he was a softball dad and swim team dad, attending practices, games, and meets.

Most importantly, he loved his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He served Him well - at church as a deacon and leader, and at home as the spiritual leader of his family. He touched many lives, and will be greatly missed by those he leaves on this earth.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son in law, Rodney Roach, and grandson, Taylor Roach. Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Barbara Box, daughters, Becky Roach and Lisa Box, grandchildren, Dusty and Nicole Roach, Katie and David Pearson, and Jennifer Roach, great grandchildren, Ben Fontenot, Libbie and Charlie Roach, Levi Roach, and Asher and Evie Pearson, sisters, Kay Sherrill and Sue Greene, and several nieces and nephews.
