Margaret Adeline Looney Carmouche Obituary
Margaret Adeline Looney Carmouche

Mrs. Margaret Carmouche, age 71, passed away on Tuesday, August 8, 2017, at 3:15 p.m., attended by family. Funeral and graveside services will begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 26, 2017, at St. Michael the Archangel Chapel at The Cathedral of St. John Berchmans in Shreveport. Officiating will be Monsignor James Carson LaCaze of The Cathedral. Interment will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Shreveport next to the graves of her mother and father.

Margaret graduated from St. Vincent's Academy in 1963 where she excelled at debate and served as president of the Student Council. She obtained her B.A. in English from USL in 1967, where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority and Sweetheart of the annual Southwestern Relays in Lafayette. Margaret earned her Master's Degree in Speech Language Pathology from LSU Medical School, as a member of the first LSU Shreveport class. She served for many years in the Caddo Parish School District and after her retirement continued in her field working in private homes, hospitals and nursing homes, specializing in traumatic brain injuries. She remained involved in her field maintaining her certifications by attending workshops and continuing education classes. She loved her work and excelled at it. She also loved to travel, taking the first of her trips to Europe as an adventurous Junior in high school. Margaret was fiercely independent and had a flair for the dramatic. She absolutely loved dogs and had a taste for old furniture and beautiful new clothes.

Margaret was a member of Speech Pathologists and Audiologists in Louisiana Schools and faithfully attended St. John Berchmans Cathedral and St. Joseph's Catholic Church.

Margaret was preceded in death by her father, Frank O'Neill Looney and her mother, Beatrice Mae Burgoyne Looney.

Margaret is survived by her daughter, Marianna Carmouche Clement (Scott) of Dallas and grandchildren, Claire and Hayes. She is also survived by her sister, Mary Ann Looney Wiersma (Ray) of Lottsburg, Virginia; and her brothers, Michael Looney (Sara) of Fredericksburg, Virginia, and Joseph Looney (Mary) of New Orleans.

The family requests that memorials be made in lieu of flowers to the private charity of donor's choice.

The family would like to recognize the efforts of her physicians and health care providers over the years and the kindness and support shown to Margaret during her lifetime by many in the Shreveport community (including specifically Marsha Whitford, the late Rodney Clark and Jannie Mae Anderson). We also thank Father Joseph Howard, Jr., for his help and comfort in Margaret's last hours.
