Marian Eames McClendon Obituary
Marian Eames McClendon

- - Marian Eames McClendon, 85, died on November 7, 2018 at The Oaks of Louisiana after a brief illness. Marian was born and grew up in Shreveport, the daughter of James William McClendon, Sr. and Mary Drake McClendon. She graduated from Byrd High School. As a young woman she lived briefly in Houston, then followed her brother, James William McClendon, Jr., to the San Francisco Bay Area. She lived much of her adult life in San Francisco, as well as an interlude in New York City. She returned to Shreveport permanently in the late 1990s and resided happily the last several years at The Oaks.

Marian received her undergraduate degree from the University of Texas at Austin, and worked as a secretary in her younger years. She later earned a law degree at the University of San Francisco and was a member of the California State Bar Association, and also trained as a speech therapist. She enjoyed managing the Louisiana forestland she inherited from her parents.

Marian was especially happy spending time with numerous cousins in the Shreveport area, including Dorrie Thoma and William, Charles and Michael Sale. She received much helpful assistance during her final years from her nurse-advocate, Susan Pierce. She was a devoted member of the First Presbyterian Church, and its choir. She also enjoyed being a member of a creative writing group. She was known for her keen wit and enjoyment of laughter, as well as her interest in politics.

She is survived by her nephews James William McClendon III, of Novato, California, and Thomas Vernon McClendon, of Georgetown, Texas, and their respective spouses, Dosh and Nancy.

Funeral arrangements are pending.
