Mildred Scott "Millie" Lee Obituary
Mildred "Millie" Scott Lee

Shreveport - A Memorial Service celebrating the life of Mildred "Millie" Scott Lee, 79, will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, July 16, at Grace Community Church. Pastor Juan Huertas will be officiating with special words from her cousin, Rev. Jim Van Hook. Burial will follow at Forest Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-4pm on Sunday, July 15, at Osborn Funeral Home.

Millie was born on August 8, 1938 and passed away on Tuesday, July 10, 2018. She was born and lived most of her life in Shreveport where she had deep family roots. She graduated from C. E. Byrd High School and still had lunch monthly with her friends from the BIT group (Best In Town). She attended college at LSU, Baton Rouge where she was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority and finished her Elementary Education Degree at Centenary College. She later earned a Master's Degree of Special Education in Michigan while beginning her family. She was a voracious reader and advocate for children's literacy while teaching for over 30 years. She taught children's Sunday School most of her adult life at Broadmoor United Methodist Church and Grace Community. In retirement, she continued volunteering through the Common Ground's Tutoring Ministry. She was always active in her churches through serving on boards, ushering and anywhere she was needed. She adored her M&M Sunday School class. She was active in the Shreveport community through the Junior League and the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Millie was a true Southern lady who never met a stranger. She was the heart and soul of the family whom she was devoted to. She was loved and adored by all who knew her. Always had a smile and offering a helping hand. She had a quick wit, an infectious giggle and was a joy to be around. She had a heart for God and an unwavering faith. She could often be found in her yard gardening. But her most special love was her family cabin, Heathercliff, on Rich Mountain outside of Mena, Arkansas where she spent summers as a child and made many memories with family and friends. She loved traveling and camping in her younger years and later looked forward to spending time at her condominium on Lake Hamilton.

Millie was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. William Mastin Scott and Margaret Sewall Scott; siblings, Margaret (Ed) Burks, Mastin (Dorothy) Scott, Lila (Owen) Mills, Gladin Scott; and nephews, Robert Burks and David Mills.

She is survived by her ex-husband, Elmo (Pete) Lee III; son, Steven Lee; daughters, Katherine Robinson and Mardie Griffing; grandchildren, Jessica and Trey Gex, Kelsey Lee, Rachael Lee, Christian Griffing, and Joshua Robinson; nephews, Scott (Mary) and John Burks, Martha Lynn Burks, Diane (George) Cruz, Mastin and Meg Scott; and her beloved furbaby, Shadow.

Pallbearers will be Scott Burks, Edwin Blewer, Trey Gex, Jason Guell, Stephen Guell and Dayton McGovern.

In lieu of flowers, donations be made in her name to Grace Community's Prayer Garden or Common Ground's Children Ministry, 9400 Ellerbe Rd, Shreveport, La 71106.
