Philip Markham Obituary

Philip Andrew Markham

Shreveport - Philip Andrew Markham, 81, passed away peacefully after a lengthy illness on Sunday, December 30, 2018.

Phil was born on March 6, 1937, in Chicago, Illinois. He migrated south to New Orleans as a young man, met and married Mildred Sue Jeter and briefly served in the military in Enewetak. He returned to Shreveport to begin his family and start his first business, Flexi-Pak. Phil grew his knowledge and experience in the packaging industry and founded Old South Industries where he worked successfully until his retirement.

Phil was a pilot, a hunter, a fisherman, an avid golfer, a hard worker, a great friend and a family man.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Sue Markham; and his daughters, Kathryn Parker and Laura McDonald. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Max McDonald, Zachary Gross, Harrison Gross, Victoria Gross and Pauline Markham. He was preceded in death by his son, Drew Markham.

There will be no service at this time. He will be laid to rest at Forest Park Cemetery and we encourage friends to visit him.

The Final Salute

Brothers in Arms, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged Hand Salutes as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.

This Hand Salute is the last that we shall render to Philip Andrew Maekham our Brother-in-Arms. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Phil. To Phil it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the devoted and selfless service he rendered to his country while serving in the U.S. Navy. Phil, we commend you for your honorable service. You are a true patriot, who served with honor and distinction. You upheld the finest qualities of an American patriot warrior: courage, commitment, generosity, sacrifice, love and devotion to family and country. You were a true friend. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at Ease. Rest in Peace.
