Dr. Scott Robert Renner Obituary
Dr. Scott Robert Renner

Opelika, AL - Dr. Scott Robert Renner died October 7, 2018 at East Alabama Medical Center. He was born in Las Vegas, NV on August 4, 1964 at Nellis Air Force Base to parents Robert and Helen Renner.

As a young man, Scott was always active. He remained that way until the end, loving life, and living it to the fullest. His positive demeanor, wit and his smile instantly drew people to him. Dr. Renner was an accomplished educator, disability advocate and motivational speaker. He also served on various boards and committees as a subject matter expert on assistive technology.

Scott sustained a spinal cord injury on August 15, 1992 rendering him a man with quadriplegia. In spite of his physical limitations, Scott returned to college and became a social worker. He was employed at the Montgomery Independent Living Center (Montgomery, AL) until he proudly joined the Auburn University family in 2008. Scott attained his doctorate from Auburn University in 2015 and worked in the Haley Center for the office of Accessibility Electronic and Information Technology as the Assistant Director. All that knew Scott recognized his unwavering dedication to the University, his students and his profession. He was passionate about many things, but mostly about helping people gain their independence.

Scott was a 1982 graduate of Bossier High School in Bossier City, LA. He earned a bachelor's degree from Northeast Louisiana University in Monroe, LA in 1987, and a master's degree in 1997 from Grambling State University in Grambling, LA.

Scott is survived by his parents and sister, Lori Renner, all of Fairhope, AL as well as his aunt, Doris Badger and cousins, Lane and Annette Badger, of Escondido, CA. Scott is also survived by his ex-wife, Delinda Fogel, of Jacksonville, FL.
