BIRMINGHAM, AL - Dr. William E. Hull, 83, of Birmingham died on December 10 following a five year journey with ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease). He was predeceased by his wife of sixty years, Wylodine Hester Hull. He is survived by his son David W. Hull (Jane) of Huntsville, AL and daughter Susan Hull Walker (Trenholm) of Charleston, SC; grandchildren Emily Hull McGee (Josh) of Louisville, KY and Andrew W. Hull (Sarah) of Birmingham, AL; and great-grandson William "Liam" Dean Hull McGee.

Bill Hull grew up in Birmingham, Alabama, the only child of William and Margaret Hull. He is a graduate of Howard College (now Samford University) and the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky. His sixty year ministry was invested in both the local church and academic institutions. He was a Professor of New Testament, Dean, and Provost at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary (1958-1975), Pastor of First Baptist Church in Shreveport, LA (1975-1987), Provost and University Professor at Samford University in Birmingham, AL (1987-2000), and Theologian in Residence for the Mountain Brook Baptist Church in Birmingham (1991-2013). His ministry at large included preaching throughout the world, writing 18 books, and providing leadership through denominational and civic involvement. A Rotarian since 1972, he actively served in three different clubs. He was President of the Birmingham Rotary Club in 2002-2003.

A Memorial Service will be held in the Sanctuary of the Mountain Brook Baptist Church in Birmingham (3631 Montevallo Road) on Monday, December 16, at 2:00 p.m. The family will receive friends following the service in Hudson Hall.
