Leonard William Olin, Jr.

LEONARD WILLIAM OLIN, JR. died February 5, 2014, in Houston at the age of 96. He was born in Greenville, MS. on Jan. 24, 1918, to Leonard W. Olin, Sr. and Betty Brown Olin. He graduated from high school in Vicksburg and attended LSU, where he was in the Corps and part of the campaign to buy the first Mike the Tiger. Leonard was a Staff Sergeant on Okinawa and Korea in World War II. He returned to Shreveport and married Kathryn Blackwell on May 9, 1946. He served as Secretary of the Board of Noel Methodist Church, which he attended for more than 30 years. Texas Eastern Corp. transferred him to Houston in 1977 and he quickly found his new church home at St. Philip's UMC. Leonard is survived by his wife, Kathryn, children Kathryn Elizabeth (Kay) and husband Robert G. Bailey, Richard Leonard (Rick) and wife Debora, and William Yeadon (Bill) and wife JoAlice. He is also survived by four beloved grandchildren, Robert Bailey and wife Sarah, Leslie Bailey, Max Olin and Cassie Berthelot and husband, Kevin; great-grandchildren, Adaline and Timothy Bailey and soon to be born Baby Berthelot. Graveside services will be held at Forest Park St. Vincent Ave., in Shreveport at 10:00 a.m., Monday, Feb. 10, 2014. A memorial service will take place in Houston, TX at St. Philip's UMC on Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to Noel Memorial Methodist Church or St. Philip's United Methodist Church.
