Evelyn Tomme Sandifer

Funeral services for Mrs. Evelyn Tomme Sandifer, age 84, will be held Friday, March 21, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. in Frost Chapel of First Baptist Church in Shreveport. Dr. Jeff Raines will officiate the service. Interment will follow at Forest Park East in Shreveport.

Visitation will be at Rose-Neath Funeral Home on Marshall St. in Shreveport on Thursday, March 20, 2014 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.

Evelyn Sandifer was born on June 4, 1929 in Ringgold, Louisiana. She attended Fair Park High School and was a graduate of Centenary College. For more than fifty years, she was a loving and supportive wife and a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Shreveport. Besides her family, her great passion was travel. She could often be found exploring new and exciting destinations on virtually every continent on the globe, including much of the USA. Her sense of adventure lives on and is clearly evident in her children and grandchildren. When she wasn't traveling, she could be found nurturing her grandchildren, planning the next family gathering or just reading book after book in her favorite chair.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William D. Sandifer, Jr. (Billy). She is survived by her three children: Gail Sandifer Hendrix; William D. Sandifer, III (Dave), wife, Linda Charmaine; and Robin Tomme Sandifer, wife, Michelle. She has five grandchildren: Kristen Davidson, husband, John; Allyson Checkley, husband, Thomas James; William D. Sandifer, IV; Chad Sandifer; and Sydney Sandifer. She also has two great-grandchildren, Lauren and Brooklyn Davidson.

The family wishes to thank all the doctors, nurses, and staff members who took such great care of Evelyn while at Christus Highland and Willis Knighton-Pierremont LifeCare. Memorial gifts may be made to the library of First Baptist Church in Shreveport.
