James Albert "Jim" Gallagher Obituary
James Albert Gallagher

Shreveport, LA - James Albert "Jim" Gallagher lost his battle with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, but he has won the Victory! Jim began his life here on this earth on July 8, 1932, and went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on August 3. He is now in the presence of our Heavenly Father.

Jim lived his entire life in Shreveport and began his career in the mortgage banking business. He later became a professional real estate appraiser doing business as Jim Gallagher and Associates. He was an Eagle Scout, 42nd degree Mason, former member of the Shrine Motorcycle Escort Unit, Past President of the Shreveport Board of Realtors, appointed by the Governor to serve on the LA State Appraisal Board, and was on the board of the Louisiana Prison Chapel Foundation, serving for many years to help raise money to build chapels on the grounds of every prison in the state of Louisiana. Prison ministry was his passion because he believed our God is a God of second chances! He served for many years with the Kairos Prison Ministry and then later, he and his wife, Celia volunteered time each month to go to Wade Prison in Homer, LA. We have many dear friends there, and I know they will miss Jim dearly.

Jim was predeceased by his parents, James and Minna Hyde Gallagher; brother, Ronnie Gallagher; and former wife, Mary Ellen. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 24 years, Celia Green Gallagher; daughters, Diana Rose (Buddy), Dawne Murray (Mike), Angela Gonzalez (Peter), Julie Gallagher, and son, Sean Gallagher; sisters, Norma Davenport (Dick) and Pat Gallagher; brother-in-law, Gerald Green (Pen); 12 grandchildren, two great-grands; several nieces and nephews, and feline friend, John Boy.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 7, at Osborn Funeral Home. Services will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 8, at Woodridge Baptist Church, officiated by Dr. Chuck McInturf and Chaplain Ray Anderson of David Wade Correctional Center. Interment will follow at Forest Park Cemetery, St. Vincent Ave.

Honoring Jim as pallbearers will be Gaston Bilbo, Gerald Green, Morgan Gallagher, Austen Murray, Morgan Murray, Stuart Sepaugh and Arthur Houston.

Jim was the love of my life, and I thank God every day for bringing us together. My life will not be the same without him, but I know that we will be together again one day. I look forward to that day with great joy. Not only will I be reunited with Jim, but I will be in the arms of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. "God will raise our bodies from the dead by His marvelous power just as He raised our Lord from the dead." (1 Corinthians 6:14) Because He lives, I can face tomorrow.

Memorials may be made to Woodridge Baptist Church, 850 East Bert Kouns, Shreveport, LA 71106, or Kairos Prison Ministry, P.O. Box 5522, Shreveport, LA 71135.
