Charles Lewis Obituary
Charles Beasley Lewis

On July 7, 2012, "Charlie" entered into rest in Bossier City, LA after discovering aggressive cancer only 30 days prior.

Charlie was born in Nashville, TN and lived in San Antonio, TX and Bossier City, LA. He graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in San Antonio in 1952 and entered the Air Force. He spent a long career serving doctors and hospitals providing and repairing leading-edge x-ray equipment from 1957 till his retirement in 1999. He worked for 36 years for the Morris family of Shreveport X-Ray Co. Charlie was a pioneering cowboy scuba diver all over Texas and the Gulf of Mexico in the 50s and 60s when the sport was in its infancy. He was smitten with "Smidge" and loved Texas swing and classic country music. Smidge and Charlie were married 45 years, dance floor show-offs, long-time members of Amigas Dance Club and Elks Club. Charlie knew the lyrics to most of the great classic country tunes and was a close friend of Hank Thompson, Texas music hero.

Charles is survived by his wife, Olive B "Smidge" Lewis of Bossier City, three children and spouses, Charles Elliott and Suzanne Lewis, Laurie Jean and Ben Rhodes, and Johnny and Gina Lewis Sedwick, all of Canyon Lake, TX, one sister, Carol Beasley Phillips of Largo, FL; five step-children and spouses, Donald S and Judi Coleman of Bossier City, LA, Michael Eugene Coleman of Ireland, John Oliver and Larraine Coleman of Shreveport, LA, Melanie Rose and Joe Warmke of Athens, TX, and Kirk Wayne and Melody Coleman of Scottsville, TX. Seven grandchildren, Joshua, Jacob and Jonathan Lewis; Jeremy, Jordan and Jacee Sedwick; and Jessica Rhodes; seven step-grands, Donna Ann Shifflet, Angela Novak, Shon David Coleman, John David Coleman, Jason Coleman, Brad Coleman, Katy Rose Warmke. Great-grands include Sierra, Ayden, Henley, and more. He is pre-deceased by his father, William John Lewis and his mother, Mary Elizabeth Johnson Lewis.

Services will be officiated by Reverend Andy Harris at Hill Crest Chapel on Tuesday, July 9 at 2:30pm. Interment will follow at Hill Crest Memorial Park. Visitation will be held Monday, July 8, 6-8pm at Hill Crest in Haughton. Pallbearers are John David Coleman, Jason Coleman, Brad Coleman, Jake Lewis, Jonathan Lewis, Ben Rhodes.
