James Ray Childress (CMSgt USAF Retired)

SHREVEPORT, LA - James R. Childress, 82, of Shreveport, LA went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, January 11, 2013. Funeral Services celebrating his life will be held at 12:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at Rose-Neath Marshall Street Chapel. Interment will follow at 2:00 pm at the Northwest Louisiana Veterans Cemetery, Keithville, LA, with full Military Honors.

The family will receive visitors from 11:00 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the funeral home.

Jim was born on May 6, 1930 in Fouke, MS, to Hinton McGruder Childress and Dorothy Owen Childress. Jim moved to Shreveport in 1934. He attended C.E. Byrd High School and Centenary College before joining the U.S. Air Force. He served his country for 30 years, serving two tours in Viet Nam. Jim was awarded several medals and commendations, including the Bronze Star. Though he had great success in his military career; his greatest accomplishment was his family. He was a devoted and loving husband and father. Left to cherish wonderful memories are his loving wife, Elizabeth Childress; children, John Robert Childress, Janie Trybus, Melissa (Jeff) Holder, Michael (Deborah) Childress, Sandra (Truett) Crow; brothers, Robert Childress and District Judge Raymond Childress; grandchildren, Heather Trybus, Erica Raney, Melissa Scruggs, Madisen Holder-Dusenbury, Kimberly Childress, Meagan Childress, Caroline Childress, Hannah Childress, Peyton Crow and Andrew Crow and seven great-grandchildren.

The family would like to thank Dr. DeSai for his excellent care and compassion given to our father.
