Walter Keith Johnston

Walter K. Johnston of Shreveport passed away on May 21, 2013.

He was born in Wapello, Iowa and served in the US Air Force. He graduated from the University of Iowa with a BS degree in Electrical Engineering and Lehigh University with an MS degree in Materials Science & Metallurgy.

He worked for North American Aviation on the second stage Saturn V rocket that went to the Moon. He retired after 30 years of service with Western Electric/AT&T, where he worked in various locations throughout the US.

He was an active member of The Builders Sunday School class at Christ United Methodist Church in Shreveport. He enjoyed golf, woodworking & Sudoku puzzles.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Loueene Johnston; a daughter & son-in-law, Kelly & Jim Stackhouse of Harleysville, PA; a son & daughter-in-law, Brett & Peggy Johnston of Tucson, AZ; 3 grandchildren, Colin, Drew & Julia Stackhouse of Harleysville, PA; a sister & brother-in-law, Helen & Bill Kline of Hills, IA; a sister & late brother-in-law, Judy & Bob Voith of Minneapolis, MN; a brother & sister-in-law, Lawrence & Renaye Johnston of Skiatook, OK; 2 aunts, Lila Mincer & Wilma Johnston, both from IA; & many nieces, nephews & friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents Everett & Lillian Johnston and brother Forrest Johnston.

A memorial service will be held in early July 2013 at Christ United Methodist Church, Shreveport.
