Ella Mae McKee Lawrence

Shreveport, LA - On April 27, 1924 Lucile and Walton McKee welcomed their daughter Ella Mae into their home on Oneonta Street in Shreveport. She graduated from South Highlands Elementary School, C. E. Byrd High School and Louisiana State University, where she was active in Chi Omega. She worked in the oil and gas industry in Shreveport, Dallas, and Houston. While living in Dallas, she married Dr. Thomas J. "Jack" Lawrence and moved back to Oneonta Street. Following Jack's death, she moved to Houston, and then in 1982 returned to her childhood home to care for her parents, and continued living on Oneonta Street until her death on November 12, 2013. She was active in the Centenary Muses, the Sequela Study Club, the Women's Department Club, and was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church. She reflected beauty in all its forms, in exquisite gardening, impeccable dress, a gracious home, and most of all, in her generosity of spirit and deep friendships. In addition to her parents and husband, she was pre-deceased by her brother, John McKee. She is survived by her nieces and their husbands, Mary and Billy Martin, Anne McKee and Mark Hulsether, Lucia and Matt Kremzar, and Jennifer and Mike Owens; 7 grand-nieces and nephews; one great grand-niece, and a host of loyal friends. The family is deeply grateful for the many friends, neighbors, and caregivers who have helped make Ella Mae's life so rich and full of joy.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 until 6:00 on Friday, November 15 at Osborn Funeral Home, 3631 Southern Ave. A memorial service will begin at 3:00 Saturday November 16, in the chapel of First Presbyterian Church, 900 Jordan Street, with Revs. Chris Currie and Rhodes Stipp officiating. Her nephews and grand-nephews will serve as pallbearers.
