Arthur Robert "Bobby" Bloxom Obituary
Arthur Robert Bloxom

SHREVEPORT, LA- Graveside services for Arthur R. "Bobby" Bloxom, 91, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, February 24, 2014 at Summer Grove Baptist Church Cemetery on Mansfield Road.

Bobby went to be with the Lord February 19, 2014. He was born December 22, 1922 in Shreveport, LA. Bobby grew up in the Allendale/Queensboro area and graduated from Fair Park High School. While in high school he excelled in football and track. Bobby met the love of his life, Betty Bass Bloxom and was married October 3, 1942. Bobby served his country with honor during World War II aboard the USS Maryland, a Battleship that saw action throughout the South Pacific including the battles of Tarawa, Kwajalein, and Saipan. At Saipan the Maryland was hit by Japanese torpedo and returned to the States for repairs. Through a twist of fate, Bobby did not return to the Maryland and spent the remainder of the war in California where his wife Betty was able to join him.

After the war, Bobby returned to work at AT&T where he would retire after 42 years of service. Bobby was very involved in the Caddo Rifle and Pistol Club setting at least one National Pistol Record in the 1960's. He traveled the country with Jim Clark competing in many pistol matches. Bobby also enjoyed fishing and in his later years became a very good deer hunter. Bobby always enjoyed traveling and he took his family on yearly vacations all over the place. In the late 1970's, Bobby and Betty bought a motorhome, one of many to come, and traveled the country together, visiting all 50 states. Bobby was also a life-long race fan and he and Betty attended many NASCAR races and went to Daytona for many years.

Bobby's later years were spent going to garage sales and flea markets buying items that required some fixing, he could fix anything, or cleaning up and then would sale them at his "legendary" garage sale twice a year. Bobby enjoyed every aspect of buying and selling including many friendships developed along the way.

Bobby supported his family, was a loving husband and will be missed by those who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of almost 70 years, Betty Bass Bloxom. He is survived by his daughter, Beverly Bloxom Denton and husband, David Denton of Fort Worth Texas; son, Don Bloxom and wife, Sharon Swink Bloxom of Shreveport; 2 grandsons; Scott Denton and wife, Kelsie of Prosper, Texas; and grandson, Bobby Bloxom, of Fort Collins, Colorado. Three great-grandchildren, Makenna Denton, Madelyn Denton and Ellison Denton of Prosper Texas and a forth great-grandchild to be born in July, 2014.

The family would like to thank Doctors May, Mead and Martin and the Highland Hospital.

In lieu of flowers please make donation to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, Memphis, TN or The Grace Home, Shreveport, LA.
