Robert Head Obituary

Robert Head

8-22-1951 - 10-2-2016

Robert P. Head escaped this mortal realm on Sunday, October 2, 2016 at the age of 65. We think he did it on purpose to avoid having a "Bye Bye Bob" celebration.

He leaves behind Cheryl, his Bride of 11 years; his children Laura Wahler, Jeffrey Head, Rachel Head and Tiffany Nusbaum; eight grand-children; four brothers; and a sister; and the great bayou where he loved to build the fish population with his famous "catch and release". He was preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Barbara Head.

Robert volunteered for service in the United States Marine Corps at the ripe old age of 17 and immediately realized he didn't enjoy being bossed around. He only stuck it out for 2 years, 11 months and 23 days (as he would say "or there abouts"). Upon his return to the City of Shreveport, Robert worked in the Oil and Gas Industry as a Landman with Chesapeake & Clark Energy.

Following his wishes, there will not be a service, but a memorial gathering at his home on October 22, 2016 from 11:30 to 1:00 for all well-wishers. You are encouraged to write a note of farewell on a drink of your choice and drink it in his honor. He was never one for sentiment or religiosity, but always loved a good joke. He was famous for his BBQ and Mardi Gras Parties, where he and his Bride opened their home to anyone that wanted to join in the fun. Robert was loved by all and will be greatly missed.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that you make a donation to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 9457 Brookline Ave., Baton Rouge, LA 70809, in honor of his Granddaughter Madelyn Grace.

Robert was a best friend of Dudley Zoller and myself. We truly had an all American childhood. I will never forget all the good times we had and a piece of me left with Robert with his passing.

The Final Salute

Brothers in Arms, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged Hand Salutes as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.

This Hand Salute is the last that we shall render to Robert P. Head our Brother-in-Arms. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Robert. And to Robert it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the devoted and selfless service he rendered to his country during the Vietnam War while serving in the U.S. Marine Corps. Robert, we commend you for your honorable service. You are a true patriot, who served with honor and distinction. You upheld the finest qualities of an American patriot warrior: courage, commitment, generosity, sacrifice, love and devotion to family and country. You were a true friend. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at Ease. Rest in Peace.

On behalf of the 961 military veteran Legionnaires of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion and the 233 veterans of VFW Post 2238 in Shreveport, Louisiana, we extend our sympathies and our condolences to Robert's family and loved ones.
