Mary A. Monohan

Mary A. Monohan Devout Catholic, 93 Mary A. Monohan, 93, of Castleton Corners died peacefully of natural causes Saturday at her home surrounded by her family. Mary was a graduate of St. Paul's grammar school and attended Curtis High School. As a young woman she worked for Great American Insurance in Manhattan. During WWII she assembled walkie talkies for the troops. In 1949 she married Dennis Monohan and then went onto raise seven children. Mary was an active parishioner at St. Rita's Church on Staten Island. She was a Eucharistic Minister and active member of the Mother's Club, Women's Guild, Quilter's Club and Prayer Group. Her caring nature and gentle disposition made her an endearing friend to many in the parish. Mary was predeceased by her husband Dennis of 52 years, her parents, Mary and Patrick Donovan and brother John. She is survived by her two sons, Dennis (Rochelle), Gerard (Diane), and five daughters, Mary Ellen Beckner, Nora Maloney, Patricia Steinert, Margaret Mournet (William), and Anne Rauscher and her sister Margaret Velluzzi (Richard). In life she was surrounded by 13 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren which gave her great joy. Funeral from Matthew Funeral Home, 2508 Victory Blvd., SI, NY 10314 on Wednesday 10:15 AM. Mass of Christian Burial, St. Rita RC Church 11:00 AM. Internment to follow St. Peter's Cemetery. Friends will be received on Tuesday from 4:00 to 8:00 pm.
