Mary Ann Bonfiglio Obituary
Mary Ann Bonfiglio, 92
Secretary and homemaker was the great-grandmother of three
Mary Ann Bonfiglio, 92, of Woodrow, Staten Island (and Basking Ridge, N.J., for a time) passed away on Thursday, Feb. 6, 2020, at Staten Island University Hospital South, surrounded by her loving family.
Born Saturday, Dec. 17, 1927, in Brooklyn, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Michele Cantone and the late Giulia Perez Cantone.
Mary, a secretary and homemaker, lived a full and active life in her 92 years. As a young girl Mary was a member of the U.S. Naval WAVES (Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service), a division of the U.S. Navy created during World War II to free up male personnel for sea duty.
In her later years, Mary was an avid bowler, and enjoyed cooking, reading, and playing Scrabble with family. Trips to the theatre with her daughter and friends, dining out, and frequent trips to Atlantic City and Las Vegas filled Mary's life.
A devout Catholic, Mary was a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas. She was especially devoted to the Blessed Mother, she was a member of the 50+ Club and the Widows Club, where she made many close friendships.
More than anything, family was most important in Mary's life.
She was the wife of the late John J. Bonfiglio (1986); loving mother of Julie Ann Bonfiglio-Zinsley (Robert), Salvatore Bonfiglio (Melody), James Bonfiglio (Denise), Tina Amato (Nicholas) and David Bonfiglio (Lynn); dear sister of Albert, Vincent, and Peter Cantone; cherished grandmother of 15, and doting great-grandmother of three.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 12 noon on Monday, at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church, 5411 Amboy Rd., Staten Island, N.Y. 10312. Interment will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Staten Island. The family will receive friends from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 9, 2020, at John Vincent Scalia Home for Funerals, Inc.
