Peter SCHUYFFEL

Sadly, Peter Schuyffel passed away peacefully in his sleep at the Orillia Soldiers' Memorial Hospital on Tuesday April 13, 2021 at the age of 78. Peter was born in Holland where he met his "schatje" and love of his life for over 60 years, Anita. In his younger days he worked as a hairdresser in his father's Hair Salon. All the ladies loved him! Later he followed his passion of tinkering with electronics and computers, first for 25 years at the University of Toronto Scarborough campus, then for 17 years at the OPP in Orillia as an Electronics Technologist. Peter was in his glory for those years at the OPP, only retiring when his health started to fail. In addition to his love for electronics, Peter enjoyed photography, listening to music, sending and receiving messages from his Ham Radio friends from around the world but most of all helping people. In addition to raising his own two children, Peter and Anita took in, cared for and loved many, many children over the years. All called him Opa which is Grandpa in Dutch. Peter was a patient, quiet, kind, and generous man, with a unique sense of humour that not everyone got right away. He will be greatly missed. Peter is survived by his wife Anita Schuyffel, daughter Anita Spence (Al) and grandchildren Leah (Mike), Curtis and Cooper (Grace), son John Schuyffel, and sister Dini Kastanis (Steve) and family. He is also survived and will be missed by the many children who came to know and love him as Opa and who still stay in touch: Rosemary, Kim and Gayle, Tyson, Jan, Dennis, Johnathon, Stephanie, Daniel, Johnathon J., Blake and Isaah and their families. There will be a Celebration of Life at a later date. The family has requested in lieu of flowers memorial donations to OPP Youth Foundation Pathway of Memories, 777 Memorial Avenue, Orillia ON L3V 7V3.
