William Thomas Grant Jr. 1939 - 2020
Springfield, IL—William Thomas Grant Jr., 81, of Springfield, died at 10:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 12, 2020, at Regency Care.
Bill was born September 3, 1939, in Taylorville, the son of William Thomas Sr. and Anna Ruth Brooks Grant. He married Pam Ellen Boaden on July 22, 1963, in Taylorville; she preceded him in death on July 27, 2019.
Bill graduated from Taylorville High School in 1957 and attended the University of Illinois. He was the owner and operator of Landmark Automotive Group that started in 1975. He was the founding President of Panther Creek Country Club, a board member of First Bank of Illinois, and a member of Blessed Sacrament Church and Island Bay Yacht Club. He served on the board of directors of the Ford Dealer Advertising Fund, was a past member of Chrysler-Plymouth National Dealer, past board member of Springfield Boys and Girls Club, and lifetime trustee of the Illinois Symphony Orchestra. Bill enjoyed golfing, bird hunting, bowling and listening to classical music with Richard Wagner as his favorite. He also enjoyed giving back to his community that supported him and his family throughout the years.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; son, William T. Grant III; brother, Terry R. Grant; and sister, Linda R. Grant.
Bill is survived by his son, Sean (wife, Taryn) Grant of Springfield; daughter, Gina (husband, Jeff) Tesio of Springfield; grandchildren, Taylor (husband, Cameron) Somerfield, Mason Grant, Aislyn Grant, and Aidan Grant; and brother, Brooks Grant of Taylorville.
Funeral Mass: 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 19, 2020, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 1725 S. Walnut St., Springfield, IL 62704 with Rev. Jeff Grant, celebrant and Rev. Thaddeus Adukus, concelebrant. Due to COVID restrictions there will be limited capacity. Family and friends may view the mass via livestream at: www.bsps.org
A private burial will take place at Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Illinois Symphony Orchestra, 3 W. Old State Capitol Plaza #1, Springfield, IL 62701; Springfield Youth Performance Group Foundation, P.O. Box 203, Chatham, IL 62629; or the Boys and Girls Club, 300 S. 15th Street, Springfield, IL 62703.
The family is being served by Butler Funeral Home—Springfield, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield.

Sean and Gina, I was so sorry to hear about your dad and my friend. He was a very special person to all who knew him, as a business associate or as a friend. It was my honor to server on the board for several years at Panther Creek when he was president. He was the first and without a doubt the best president we ever had. We were very lucky to have him. I am sending prayers your way. Your dad and my friend will not be forgotten soon.

Mr. Grant was always good to me and my Family. As a employee for 30 plus years I never met a fairer man than him. If he said it , it was so. Period. Even if it meant at his expense. Again I cant think of a finer man. Missed by all, rest in peace. And may your family find peace in these times of pain.

I had the privilege of working for Mr. Grant back in the mid to late 1980’s. Always the consummate professional, I remember Mr. Grant putting his complete faith and trust into those that worked for him. I also remember the strong spirit of family and sense of community that he instilled within his dealerships.
