Robert H. "Bob" McCarthy, Jr. 1941 - 2018
Mechnicsburg, IL—Robert (Bob) H. McCarthy, Jr., 77 of Mechanicsburg, died at 9:40 pm, Tuesday, September 4, 2018. He was born May 5, 1941 in Gurdon, AR, to Robert H. and Glendene Brown McCarthy, Sr. He married Nancy Helms in January of 1962.
Survivors include his Wife, Nancy of Mechanicsburg; two sons, Robert (Ursla) McCarthy, III of Lansing, KS and John L. McCarthy of Knoxville, TN; five grandsons, Robert H. McCarthy IV, Collyn S. McCarthy, Ryan D. McCarthy, Tyler R. McCarthy, and Ronen H. McCarthy; two sisters, Suella Tye of Hope, AR and Sarah Smalling of San Antonio, TX and one brother, John McCarthy of Olympia, WA.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Professionally, Bob served in various leadership roles with Caterpillar dealerships in Springfield, IL, Las Vegas, NV, St. Louis, MO and Knoxville, TN. Bob returned to Mechanicsburg and finished his career consulting for Caterpillar, retiring in 1996.
Personally, Bob was a faithful Child of God, loving husband, dedicated Father, giving friend, and very proud of his Army Service as a paratrooper in the 101st Airborne Division. He was a member and lay leader of Fountain of Life United Methodist Church.
Visitation: 9 – 10:30 am, Friday, September 14, 2018 at Staab Funeral Home – Sherman, 2626 E. Andrew Road, Sherman, IL.
Funeral Service: 10:30 am, Friday, September 14, 2018 at Staab Funeral Home – Sherman, with Reverend Aletha Weatherall officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to Fountain of Life United Methodist Church.
