FLOYD LEWIS Obituary

Floyd Lewis, age 87, passed away on Wednesday, January 9, 2013, surrounded by his wife and children shortly after being hospitalized for a sudden illness at Skagit Valley Hospital, in Mount Vernon, WA.

Born in Roundup, MT in 1925, Floyd was the son of teacher Rena and farmer Vollie Lewis.

At age five, he moved with his parents and four siblings to Roseburg, OR where he graduated from high school in 1943.

He married Aileen Alair Clifton in Ashland, OR in 1949 and attended Southern Oregon College, graduating in 1951 with a bachelor's degree in Education.

Floyd remembered his two years as an elementary school teacher with fondness, but his true passion was for electronics, and in 1956 he obtained a BS in Electrical Engineering from Oregon State College, in Corvallis, OR. That same year, Floyd and Alair moved to northern California where they stayed for the next forty-one years. At Sylvania in Santa Clara and Electronic Systems Laboratories in Sunnyvale he managed the design and development of radar and radio technologies including projects for national defense efforts. He was granted a patent in 1964 for a "Pulse Shaping Circuit" for radar transmitters.

Floyd was an avid amateur photographer and maintained an interest in film cameras. He loved hiking, running, and bird watching. When he retired from work in 1991, Floyd and his wife enjoyed traveling around the country in their motor home. They returned to live in his childhood city of Roseburg, OR in 1997 and eventually settled in Mount Vernon, WA in 2007.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Aileen Alair Lewis; two sisters Olivia Anderson of Campbell, CA and Gladys Martin of North Pole, AK; and two children Katherine Lewis of Mount Vernon, WA and Gary Lewis of San Francisco, CA.

Memorial Services for Floyd will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, February 2, 2013 at Bethany Covenant Church, 1318 S. 18th St., Mount Vernon, WA 98274.

So sorry to hear about Floyd Lewis passing away. I worked with Floyd for many years at ESL, 1966-1980. He was a pleasure to work with.
