1942 - 2018
May 2, 1942 -
September 14, 2018

It is with deep sadness that the family of Carol Ann Pette Bergner, 76, of Anacortes, WA, announces her sudden passing on September 14, 2018. By her side was her beloved husband of 48 years, Donald Bergner.

Carol was born on May 2, 1942, the daughter of Patrick & Ann Pette.

A native New Yorker from Rockville Centre, she attended St. Vincent's School of Nursing and later, Colombia University, where she gained her Bachelor of Science. She later received her Master's in Nursing from San Jose State University. Her nursing profession extended to public health, school nursing, and teaching nursing at St Mary's College and Skagit Valley College. She moved to Seattle in 1969 and met her future husband, Donald.

Soon after marrying in 1970, she and Donald joined the Peace Corps and moved to Micronesia, where their first child was born.

They later returned to Seattle and continued to grow their family. In 1980, Carol and her family moved to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia where they lived for 4 years. In 1984 the family moved to Lafayette, California. In 2002, following retirement, Carol and Donald moved up to Anacortes.

Her lifelong passion for serving her community went beyond her chosen profession. In later years, Carol and Donald served as Foster Parents, Meals on Wheels drivers, Dunga Orphanage board member, Foundation for Academic Endeavors (FAE) volunteers, and many other community commitments.

Carol was also known for her strong faith. She prayed for an hour every day as a sign of her devotion to God. In addition, Carol was no stranger to trying new things and enjoyed many activities, such as tap dancing, tennis, pickle ball, and travel. Her youthful energy and natural zest for life were admired by many.

She is survived by her three children, Kathleen, Patrick (Tanya), and Sarah Ann (Abby), as well as by her beloved grandson, Nicholas. Carol will also be lovingly remembered by her many dear friends, extended family, and community.

She was preceded in rest by her parents, and sisters: Adrienne & Janet.

Memorial service will be held in Anacortes at Christ Episcopal Church on September 28, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. Burial service will be held at Fernhill Cemetery in Anacortes on September 29, 2018 at 11:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Dunga Orphanage or the FAE.

Arrangements are in the care of Evans Funeral Chapel of Anacortes, WA.
