Obituary Condolences

Charlotte Martin, 83, died unexpectedly on Friday, August 31, 2018 at her Anacortes home.

Charlotte was born in Clay Center, KS, the daughter of Earl & Esther Henry. She graduated from Kansas State University.

Charlotte spent her career in journalism in the Kansas City area, retiring in 2001 after 33 years as an Assistant Division Director with the American Academy of Family Physicians.

Following her retirement, she and Bob pursued their dream of ocean sailing and moved to Anacortes.

They loved the natural beauty of the seascape and surrounding mountain ranges and enjoyed cruising the San Juan and Gulf Islands.

Following Bob's death in 2006, she remained active in the community as a member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood and in her support of several local charities and organizations.

Charlotte asked that there be no formal services. Family and friends will gather informally at several locations across the country to celebrate her life and honor her memory.

Charlotte was always up for a grand adventure but was equally comfortable taking in the quiet beauty of the world from a bench in Washington Park. Her love and friendship were unconditional; her interest and concern were absolutely genuine. If she was a part of your world, you were blessed. She will be deeply missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Eleanor Chestnut; her husband Bob Martin, and her son G. Jay Neilan.

She is survived by her daughter Nancy (Dennis Schafer) and her son Scott (Melody) Neilan; daughter-in-law, Mary Neilan; Bob's daughters: Amy Ashley, Cynthia Martin, and Elizabeth (Charles Calder), and their children: Nicole (Ian Cowgill), Christopher Martin-Ives, and Merrick Calder; grandsons: Austin Schafer, Gary, Alex (Rachel), Kyle (Savanna) and Jordan Neilan, and granddaughter Mary Grace Neilan will also mourn her loss.

Arrangements are in the care of Evans Funeral Chapel of Anacortes, WA.
