John Arthur Hogsett, 68, lost his battle with pancreatic cancer on July 5, 2018.

He will be deeply missed as a husband, father, stepfather, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend to all. John loved to talk and he would talk your ear off.

John was born in Litchfield, Illinois to Robert Lee & Mary Elizabeth on July 31, 1949. The family moved to Washington State when he was seven years old. Living in Anacortes until the family moved to Mount Vernon on Bennett Road where he grew up and attended Mount Vernon Schools.

John graduated from high school in 1967. He then went to work in the fields. In 1968 Uncle Sam called and he joined the United States Coast Guard, He was on the USCCC Staten Island sailing to Alaska.

When he was then called to Engine School and was stationed on the Oregon Coast for the rest of his tour.

John went to Skagit Valley College where he earned an Associates in Arts Degree.

After being discharged he started working for National Frozen Foods in Burlington, WA where he worked until they closed shop and then went to truck driving school but decided to retire in 2001.

John was married to Deborah Lee Garner in 1977, raising her son Robert Frazier. In 1978 John and Deborah were blessed with their daughter Amanda. They were divorced in 1994.

In 1995 John married Sandra Crapson in Yuma AZ.

John leaves behind his brother Andrew Hogsett of Everett, WA stepson Robert Frazier (wife Tessa) of Richland, WA, daughter Amanda Welcher (companion Souse Bell) of Bellingham, WA; stepdaughter Elizabeth Crapson of Concrete, WA; stepson Dwight Crapson of Fayetteville, AR; stepdaughter Geneva Power (spouse Ian) of Leduc County, Alberta.

John was preceded in death by both of his parents along with his sister Mary Christine Hogsett and stepson Martin Crapson.

John would like to thank Hospice of the Northwest for all the help they gave him. To Nellie, Jennifer and Halley they helped make his last days so much easier and were immense help to Sandra who was his main nurse.

In lieu of flowers John and family would like donations to go to Hospice of the Northwest at 227 Freeway Drive, Suite A, Mount Vernon, WA 98273.

A Memorial Service for John will be held on Monday, July 16, 2018 at 2:00pm at Hawthorne Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, WA.
