1969 - 2011 Obituary Condolences
Kurt David Rehder, 41, died unexpectedly on December 27, 2010, in Billings, Montana, of a cardiac event.

Kurt was born June 4, 1969, in Missoula, Montana. After attending Hellgate High School in Missoula, Kurt joined the US Navy and served as an avionics technician on the USS Carl Vinson. After discharge from the US Navy, Kurt met and married Barbara Elizabeth Graber in 1992.

Kurt lived and worked in many places over the years, including Montana, Washington and Idaho. In 2004, Kurt decided to pursue his dream of becoming an architect and moved with his family to Wellington, New Zealand, where he graduated from Victoria University Wellington in 2008, with a Bachelor of Science degree, emphasis in Building Science and Architecture. Kurt focused on recycled materials and environmental issues in architecture, and was LEED certified in green building. Recently Kurt had landed his dream job, and at the time of his death, Kurt was working as a Building Performance Analyst with CTA Architects Engineers of Billings, MT.

Kurt was a passionate man who was larger than life. He threw his entire being into every single thing he did. Kurt was animated, outspoken and genuine. He had a big booming voice; a huge, kind heart, and he would always stick up for the underdog. Kurt's integrity and honor were beyond compare.

Kurt loved music and was learning to play acoustic guitar. He enjoyed watching his Miami Dolphins play, and loved camping in the mountains of Montana. However, Kurt's primary interests were in his family. Kurt and Barbara enjoyed many crazy adventures together before welcoming their first daughter, Darian Storm, in 1998, followed by their second daughter, Kallista Rain, in 2002. With the addition of his daughters, Kurt's "Team Rehder" was complete.

Kurt loved his family with his whole heart and soul. Kurt was a devoted father, a loving husband and son, and a loyal friend. He was taken from us way too soon, and he will be forever missed!

Kurt is survived by his wife of 19 years, Barbara Elizabeth Graber Rehder, and two daughters, Darian Storm (12) and Kallista Rain (8); his mother, Aileen L. Rehder (Marv) of Scottsdale, AZ; his father, John E. Rehder (Barbara) of Missoula, MT; his brother, John C.J. Rehder (Pam) of Hope Mills, NC; his sister, Raewyn V. Stine (Tim) of Stevensville, MT; his maternal grandmother, Phyllis Keay of Brisbane, Australia; four uncles, Henry P. Rehder (Joanne) of Washington; Bruce A. Keay of Brisbane, Australia; Gordon C.E. Keay and Evan J. Keay (Vanessa) of Wellington, New Zealand; one aunt, Denise R. Keay, of Wellington, New Zealand; father-in-law Amos H. Graber of Shipshewana, IN; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, along with many wonderful friends in the United States, New Zealand and Australia.

Kurt was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Henry J and Marion I. Rehder of Missoula, MT; his maternal grandfather, Charles G.A. Keay of Wellington, New Zealand; and mother-in-law Linda L. Avera of Anacortes, WA.

A Celebration of Kurt's Life/Memorial gathering will take place Saturday, January 29th, 2011, at Bayern Brewery, 1507 Montana St, Missoula, MT, at 2:00 p.m.
