JACK LESLIE & LAVERNA JEAN REID

Jack Leslie Reid and LaVerna Jean Reid passed away on September 10th, 2016 in Sun City West, Arizona.

They are survived by their daughter, Lezli Reid Stone, and son-in-law, Mark Stone, from Arizona.

Dr. and Mrs. Jack and Verna Reid resided in Anacortes, Washington, for over thirty years. Dr. Reid established the Island Optometry Clinic in the 1950's and practiced for 30 years.

He was the President of the Anacortes School Board and Washington State Board of Optometry. He was a pioneer in the field of Optometry, establishing many techniques for visual therapy. This included conducting annual seminars for Optometrists in Visual Development for Children and Adults. Many of these seminars were held at Rosario Resort on Orcas Island.

Jack married his sweetheart Verna in 1950. Together they were very instrumental in starting the original Anacortes Arts and Crafts Festival that is still held the first weekend in August.

Verna and Jack played golf at Similk Beach golf course. Verna did not start playing golf until her thirties. She soon became a "much" better golfer than Jack. She had soon racked up SEVEN holes in ones and won many golf tournaments. Everyone wanted to play golf with Verna.

They started the gourmet club in Anacortes. Several couples would have dinner and use the other members as "guinea pigs" to try out new recipes. Verna was also very involved with the funding and plans for the current Anacortes Hospital and established the first Anacortes Art Gallery.

In the eighties they moved to Princeville, Hawaii. They established a property management business that involved buying, selling and managing luxury condominiums.

Feeling a bit land locked and wanting to be closer to their daughter, they relocated to the state of Arizona ten years later.

Jack and Verna always felt the Pacific Northwest was home, especially the city of Anacortes.

A family sea burial service will be held on Sunday, 9/10/2017.

Their daughter and son-in-law will be at Island Café at 701 Commercial Avenue in Anacortes on Sunday, 9/10/2017 at 4:00 PM after the sea burial service. If you'd like to join them, please just come by.
