James "Jim" Swick Obituary
James "Jim" Swick, age 74 and great father of 5 boys passed away Wednesday, August 8th, at Enloe Hospital in Chico, CA.
Jim was born on October 5, 1943 in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan to Harold and Anamae Swick. He was raised a Christian man and had a wonderful childhood in the Sault where he grew up with 4 siblings, fished, played sports, and had a pet crow named "Captain" who became famous around town for his mischief. He was also a very talented chess player and musician who played the guitar.
Jim graduated from high school and later joined the U.S. Navy to become a hospital corpsman for 3 years. After the Navy he married Margaret Anne Murphy and started a family that would eventually have 5 boys. Living in different states (IL, MO, IA, MI, MN, WI) throughout the Midwest, Jim supported his family by working very hard as an iron worker all over the United States. He loved hockey and watching his boys play and would attend games and tournaments whenever he could. He usually sat behind the goal coaching and cheering them on.
Later in life, Jim migrated to the West Coast where he continued work as an iron worker in Los Angeles, CA and later up the coast to Portland, OR and Seattle, WA. He made many friends and lived the "mountain man" life in his house in Concrete, WA. During the last years of his life he made his way down to Chico, CA to be closer with his son Jordan and his family.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents and brother in-law Don Nay.
He is survived by his brothers and sisters Nancy Nay, Dave (Gloria), Becky Hammond (Dean), and Tom (Lynn); his 5 sons Jaimie (Christine), Schon (Kerry), Jason (Karin), Robin, and Jordan; his 12 grandchildren Sam, Natalie, Camille, Lily, Hawthorne, William, Nathanial, Rebecca, Elise, Grace, Josie, Margaret; and many nieces and nephews.
Two memorial services will be held for Jim. 1. Saturday, October 6, at 12 p.m. at Discovery Community Church in St. Paul Park, MN. 2. Saturday October 13, at 11 a.m. at First Church of Christ in Sault Ste. Marie, MI.
